Legendary fiddler Matilda Murdoch has died

Miramichiers and music fans alike are mourning the passing of legendary fiddler Matilda Murdoch.

She died on Saturday, just days after celebrating her 99th birthday.

The Loggieville native picked up the fiddle when she was a child and taught herself to play.

She went on to play with some of the best musicians in the world and her Loggieville Two-Step has remained a crowd favorite.

In recognition of her work, Murdoch was inducted of the Order of New Brunswick and the Order Of Canada.

She is also a member of the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame and the North American Fiddle Hall of Fame, among numerous other honours.

Visitation is set for Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 at Maher’s Funeral Home.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 11 at St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church in Loggieville.
