Major winter storm on the way

Miramichiers are bracing for a major blizzard that is expected hit this weekend.

Environment Canada is tracking a low pressure system that will hit our area on Sunday.

The storm will bring with it up to 60 cm of snow Sunday through Monday.

The bulk of the snow, up to 50 cm, will fall on Sunday. The remaining amounts will come on Monday.

In southern New Brunswick, residents can expec snow, ice pellets, freezing rain and rain.

Already there are warnings that travel will be disrupted and that power outages are likely.

Officials are asking residents to be prepared with everything they need for up to 72 hours after the storm.

That includes having things on hand like water, non-perishable food, flashlights, a radio, batteries, candles, first aid kit and prescription medication.

New Brunswickers should also make sure their cell phones are full charged at all times and that vehicles are filled with fuel.
