Man rescued after snowmobile breaks down

A 61-year-old Rexton man had to be rescued yesterday, after his snowmobile broke down.

The Miramichi Police Force says it was contacted by a provincial off road enforcement officer, asking for help in finding the missing snowmobilers.

The man had left his home Sunday morning and not returned.

A city police officer and the off road enforcement officer set out on snowmobiles, traveling from the missing man’s last known location along NB Trail No. 52.

At around 8:30 yesterday morning, officers found the man. His snowmobile had broken down and he has walked 20 km to the nearest trail side shelter, where he’d spent the night.

The man did not have a cellphone with him and was snowmobiling alone.

Police say other than being thirsty and hungry, the man was in good health.
