No tax rate increase expected next year in city

If Miramichi city council approve this year’s general operating budget as proposed, there will be no tax rate increase for next year.

Councillors have been presented with a $35 million budget – which contains almost a million dollars more in expenditures.

The city’s is able to hold the line on taxes due to an increase in its tax base assessment and an increase in its unconditional grant from the province.

A vote on the budget is expected on Dec. 13th.
