The Miramichi Police Force is warning city residents to be on alert for a telephone scam.
Police say several people in the city have received calls from an automated system claiming to be the Visa credit card department.
The messages indicates that there has been two charges on your credit card.
The system them prompts the caller to press 1 to allow the charge or 2 to cancel. When the customer presses 2, a person comes on the line and requests the full credit card number and personal information.
Police say that if you receive this call, hang up and and do not provide the requested information.
