The speaker of the New Brunswick Legislature has ruled that while a Green Party MLA’s reference to Nazi propaganda was in bad taste, it did not violate parliamentary rules.
Earlier this week, Kent North MLA Kevin Arseneau used a quote by Adolf Hitler’s propaganda Minister while criticizing the People’s Alliance during his reply to the Throne Speech.
On Tuesday, the speaker invited Arseneau to withdraw his comments voluntarily, but the MLA refused.
Green Party leader David Coon defended Areseneau to the media and said the use of the quote was fair.
People’s Alliance Leader Kris Austin said he understands heated debate, but that Arseneau overstepped.
