Kevin Vickers has announced his resignation as Canada’s ambassador to Ireland.
He made the announcement in a Facebook post.
He will officially leave the position in March and plans to return to his home in Trout Brook.
The Miramichi native is best known as the former Sergeant at Arms on Parliament Hill.
He came to national prominence when he shot and killed an armed terrorist at the Parliament in October of 2014.
Vickers made it known last month that he was considering making a bid for leadership of the New Brunswick Liberal Party.
The party will pick its new leader in Saint John on June 22.
